The Latin American Association offers internship opportunities for college students interested in developing public relations skills. Students gain experience in media relations, writing, editing, web site development, event planning, and marketing.

Successful candidates will have strong writing and organization skills, along with high attention to detail, creativity and ability to meet deadlines and produce results. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. 20 hours/week, flexible schedule, class credit available.

Community Outreach Interns

For college students interested in working directly with the Latino community. Interns will gain an understanding of the needs affecting metro-Atlanta’s Latino population and gain skills relating to the social services field. Interns help with early childhood literacy programs, with teaching computer classes in Spanish, and assisting health and nutrition programs and other LAA services.  Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, good people skills, and a strong desire to help the community.

Education & Employment Program Interns

For college students interested in working directly with the Latino community through educational and career building initiatives. Assist with registration process and facilitation of sessions for education classes such as ESL, Spanish literacy, computer skills, and citizenship. Also assists employment department with facilitating entry-level job seeker workshops in Spanish, helping clients with writing resumes and conducting mock-interview sessions.

Interns gain skills in program facilitation and management, public speaking skills in Spanish, and the needs of the Latino community.  Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, good organizational skills, attention to detail, and have the ability to work independently on projects.

Immigration Legal Services Interns

For college students interested in gaining skills in the field of immigration law.

Interns will be introduced to the work of immigrant lawyers and paralegals and gain a stronger knowledge in the over-all process of the national immigration system. Interns will assist with day-to-day operations of the immigration department, fulfilling tasks such as writing letters to clients, pulling files and data processing.

Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, strong clerical skills, high attention to detail, and a strong desire to help the community.

Inspira! Youth Initiative Interns

For college students interested in assisting in the coordination and development of LAA youth programs. Interns will work directly with the youth coordinator to carry out programs such as Mami y Yo, violin classes, and help prepare curriculum and recruitment for youth summer program and the Latino Youth Leadership Conference.

Interns gain skills in youth program management and development, education initiatives, event planning, and issues affecting the Latino community.

Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, good organizational skills, attentinon to detail, and have the ability to work independently on projects.

Inspira! Youth Summer Program Interns

For college students interested in working directly with Latino youth, ages 1st through 8th grade. These interns are responsible for directly over-seeing a group of students throughout the summer camp program. Interns lead math and science-focused programs, organize group activities, games, and chaperone field trips.

Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, enjoy working with children, are highly responsible and flexible, and have the ability to work independently. Bilingual English/Spanish skills is preferred. 40 hours/week during months of June and July, flexible schedule, class credit available.

Special Events & Fundraising Interns

Interns will assist with event logistics for the LAA’s major fundraising events such as Latin Fever, Compaeros Awards Luncheon, EnLAAce events, and Open Houses. Interns will gain skills in event planning and post event-wrap-up, fundraising, donor relations, sponsor relations, and database management.

Successful candidates will be very outgoing with the ability to make cold phone calls. Candidates must have significant knowledge of Excel, strong organization skills, high attention to detail, and ability to meet deadlines. Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. 16 - 20 hours/week, flexible schedule, class credit available.

Volunteer Program Interns

For college students interested in learning about volunteer coordination, outreach, and event planning. Interns will gain experience in volunteer program development, coordinating volunteer efforts, maintaining volunteer records, and volunteer surveys and appreciation. Interns will also learn about the various elements of working with community partners such as individuals, corporations, universities, nonprofits, and schools.

Successful candidates will have a positive attitude, good people skills,  organization skills, high attention to detail, creativity and ability to meet deadlines.

Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred. 16 - 20 hours/week, flexible schedule, class credit available.
