Millie Irizarry is the Latin American Association’s Chief Executive Officer. In her leadership role, Ms. Irizarry is focused on furthering the LAA’s commitment to excellence, thus ensuring that the organization continues to serve the Latino community with high quality services rooted in compassion.

 

 

Ms. Irizarry brings not only a passion for serving Latinos to her position as CEO but also more than 20 years of combined nonprofit and business experience. As Director of Hispanic Affairs/Donor Development at Florida’s Blood Centers from 2005-08, she created the organization’s infrastructure and led the programming for a highly successful outreach to the Hispanic community across the state. From 2000-2005, she served as the Director of the Women’s Residential and Counseling Center/Victims Services Program, also in Orlando. From 1985-99, Ms. Irizarry served as President/CEO of Aero Groups of Orlando, a travel agency and tour company focused on travel in the Americas.

 

 

Ms. Irizarry currently serves on the advisory boards of the Foundation Center Atlanta and the Atlanta Regional Commission. Her past activities include being a member of the Orange County Minority/Women Business Enterprise Advisory Board, the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce Board of Governors, the 2005 Blue Ribbon Panel for Education formed by Orange County and City of Orlando Mayors, and others. Active in the Latino community, she also served as Chair of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Metro Orlando from 2004-2005. Additionally, she received the Hispanic Excellence Award in 2008 for outstanding contributions toward the enhancement of Multicultural Activities in the Southeast and was named the 2004 Paoli Award winner for Best Public Service Private Enterprise. Ms. Irizarry earned a B.A. from the University of Central Florida and graduated Magna cum Laude.

Jeffrey Tapia

Jeffrey Tapia serves as the LAA’s chief operating officer. In her role, Tapia assists with the LAA’s social service programs, internal operations and administration, and ensures that programmatic and organizational goals are met with the highest quality, responsiveness and efficiency.

 

Tapia returned to the Latin American Association after living in Argentina for the last four years. She previously held the position of associate director from 1996-2001. Under her leadership as associate director, Tapia successfully led the implementation of two strategic plans and oversaw the establishment of new centers in Cobb, Gwinnett and Clayton Counties.

 

Prior to her position at the LAA, she was director of Hispanic services for Catholic Charities (then Catholic Social Services), and director of educational and training programs for migrant and seasonal agricultural workers in North Carolina. While in North Carolina, Tapia also co-directed the largest English language school implemented in the labor camps in the Southeast. She was an interpreter and logistics coordinator for international media in Nicaragua from 1985 to 1987 including the National Geographic.


 
A native of Georgia, Tapia is fully bilingual and has traveled extensively throughout South America.

Eduardo Nino-Moreno

Eduardo Nino-Moreno is LAA’s Managing Director of Grants.  As such, he is responsible for Grants and Foundations Management. 

 

Eduardo brings to LAA a wealth of international experience acquired during an interesting and rewarding career with the United Nations, which he joined in 1974.  He has lived and worked in over a dozen countries mainly in Latin America and the Caribbean and has also conducted multiple official missions in Africa, Asia, the Commonwealth of Independent States, Russia and Europe. Eduardo reached the highest U.N. managerial position at the Field level as United Nations Resident Coordinator and U.N. Development Program Resident Representative.  In addition to his representational and advocacy duties as top U.N. envoy, he was directly responsible for the strategic planning and the mobilization of sizeable resources for Human Development and poverty reduction programs and projects.  His involvement in pioneering conflict resolution/consensus building processes as well as his leadership and negotiating skills  earned him a good number of Citations and Honor Medals in several Countries including the Grand Cross of the Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa in the Republic of Panama. 

 

Prior to his U.N. service, Eduardo was National Director of Foreign Studies (ICETEX) and Special Adviser for Social and Educational Affairs (COLCIENCIAS) in the Government of Colombia. He is bilingual in English and Spanish and has a working knowledge of Portuguese and French.  In addition to his passion for trying to make a difference in the lives of those less fortunate, he enjoys riding his motorcycle, taking hiking trips, and getting to meet new friends.

 

Eduardo is a citizen of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay and obtained his academic degrees at Dartmouth College (B.A.) and Cornell University (M.A.) respectively. He and his wife live in Roswell, Georgia.

Myrna Clemmons

Myrna Clemmons serves as the managing director for resource development at the Latin American Association. In her role, she supervises all donor development, corporate sponsorships, public relations, communications, and volunteer efforts. Prior to joining the LAA, Myrna held several regional roles in the staffing and executive search industry, serving as a consultant in many roles for the past 18 years. Most recently she worked at Aldebaran Associates as vice president of business development. She designed and implemented several ?start-up? branches and managed many branches in markets throughout the southeast region. She has served on the Board of the United Boricuas of Georgia and has been an active member of the GMSDC, Georgia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Women Business Council, Aids Walk, Habitat for Humanity, and others.

 

She has been responsible for P&L, training, hiring and staff development, as well as vendor management programs. She has managed multi-million dollar budgets and has partnered with many employers of choice in the Atlanta market. Prior to her career in staffing, she held a national sales manager position for a global manufacturer of medical instrumentation.

 

She earned her bachelor’s degree at the Catholic University of Puerto Rico and moved to Atlanta more than 30 years ago from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

 

 

 

    

 

Jonathan Eoloff
Director of Immigration

Jonathan Eoloff is the director of immigration services at the LAA.  Prior to joining the LAA, Jonathan worked at Catholic Charities Immigration Services in the detention project.  Prior to relocating to Atlanta in August 2008, Jonathan worked at the National Immigrant Justice Center in Chicago, where he represented LGBT and HIV-positive immigrants in asylum, Convention Against Torture, Violence Against Women Act, U visa and other protection-based claims.  After law school, Jonathan worked for one year with the Mexican Capital Legal Assistance Program, where he assisted in the defense of Mexican nationals on death row or facing capital trials in the U.S.  Jonathan is a 2004 graduate of the University of Minnesota Law School.
