How You Can Help

The Latin American Association’s work is ever-changing, constantly expanding to meet new challenges faced by our immigrant community.  But as our programs grow, so does our understanding of just how much work there is to do to accomplish the mission that inspires each member of our team of dedicated staff, volunteers and donors.

Our mission is to help Latino families achieve their aspirations for academic, social and economic advancement.  We accomplish this through public support that allows us to provide direct programs, alongside integrated community partnerships, that focus on youth academic achievement, education and prevention about issues facing our Latino community, and deliver services to families with urgent needs throughout Georgia and the entire southeast.

We can’t do it alone! We need your support to ensure that:

• Programs for youth academic achievement can continue. We empower young Latinos with the confidence, resources, and the supplemental education necessary to fully integrate into American society, while preserving bicultural diversity–the very foundation of American society.

• Proactive education for immigrant families can grow. In doing so, our donors provide the Latino community with the most important tool of all–knowledge.  Educating our community, individuals and families who have recently immigrated to the United States legally, on common challenges and pervasive issues which determine success or failure during the process of integrating into a new society, culture, and economy.

• Critical services are provided to families with urgent needs. Whether someone needs help with a dangerous situation of domestic violence or is a refugee of war or political unrest in the country from which they immigrated, we resolve these challenges and position the individual or family for success in 30 days or less.

• We foster the growth of our integrated community partnerships with other non-profit organizations, government agencies and institutions. Our partnerships expand capacity among other organizations to support our work, while at the same time minimizing the cost of accomplishing not only our mission, but that of the partnering organization as well.

As our executive director, Milagros “Millie” Irizarry, often says, “This organization is my heart and soul and the LAA is such a vital organization providing critically important services to the community. Each member of the LAA staff, corps of volunteers, interns and donors is part of this effort.”
