LAA Community Impact

Meeting Urgent Needs

Helped address the 18.8% poverty level of Georgia’s Latinos by providing 21,574 essential services such as financial assistance, food and clothing, and access to community resources for families facing crisis situations. As a result, 622 people at risk of homelessness remained housed.

Education & Prevention Programs

Enhanced the knowledge of 1,419 adults by teaching English as a Second Language, Spanish literacy and computer literacy classes, which helped participants build skills that contribute to stability and self-sufficiency.

Youth Academic Achievement

Helped address the Latino academic achievement gap by providing 300 youth with constructive summer activities focused on math and science at the ¡Inspira! summer camp program.Strengthened academic outcomes for 290 students by providing after school programs at Woodward and Susan Stripling Elementary Schools.

Youth Leadership Development

Inspired 1,200 youth to develop leadership skills and continue their education at the 9^th annual ¡Inspira!  Latino Youth Leadership Conference.

Early Childhood Literacy

Deepened the involvement of 334 mothers in their children’s education while fostering critical early literacy skills and preparing children to start school through the Mami y Yo program. 

Parenting Initiative

Helped 115 participants in parenting classes build closer relationships with their spouses and children, develop conflict management skills, and learn new ways to understand and nurture their children in a new culture. 

Employment & Career Development

Enhanced the employability of 6,638 adults through job skills training, job fairs, informational employment seminars, resume building workshops, and career counseling.  

Immigration Assistance

Provided affordable immigration services to 5,164 families and individuals, enabling them to become fully-participating members of our community. 429 adults and children obtained legal permanent residency, 770 individuals obtained employment authorization, and 82 individuals became US citizens.

Domestic Violence

Gave renewed hope to 968 individuals by helping them transition from domestic violence situations, escape a cycle of abuse and gain a positive outlook on life. 
 

Volunteers

Involved approximately 1,000 professionals and students as volunteers in LAA programs, activities and committees.

Community Collaborations

Partnered with 156 community organizations to expand resources and avoid the duplication of programs and services. Collaborations included Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, and Gwinnett Counties and DFCS, Junior Achievement, Boy and Girl Scouts, YMCA of Metro Atlanta, Westminster Schools, and Atlanta Legal Aid Society.
