Conference overview

The LAA’s Latino Youth Leadership Conference is an exciting and inspirational day where Latino youth have the unique opportunity to spend a day in dialogue with community leaders and experts surrounding topics such as leadership development, continued education, cultural awareness, and how to maintain a positive outlook when faced with challenges.

Parents are also welcome to attend sessions about navigating the U.S. educational system, learning about educational opportunities for their children, and other topics such as bullying and gang prevention.

There are sessions for teachers too! Experts speak about multiculturalism in the classroom, and building cultural awareness and skills.

Students also participate in a college and resource networking session where students learn about scholarship opportunities, colleges, universities, technical schools, and other real world opportunities. The conference takes place on a college campus, giving students a first-hand introduction to life at a university!

Conference History

The LAA's youth conference began in 2000 at a local high school with 200 students and has since grown to a conference of over 1,300 students, 200 parents, 100 teachers, 280 volunteers, and 40 exhibitors. It now takes place at a college or university. The Latin American Association's Annual Latino Youth Leadership Conference has grown over 600% in 9 years.
