Compañeros Lucheon Honors Contributions, Features Tony Plana of Ugly Betty

The message of the day was simple, but powerful: By doing good you can change history. Through volunteering and team work, we can have a positive impact in another person´s life. This year´s 20th annual Compañeros Award Luncheon, which was presented by The Coca-Cola Company, celebrated individuals and companies for changing history by making a difference in the lives of hundreds of Hispanic children, teens and families in Georgia.

LAA and MABC Partner
Together to Make an Impact

The Latin American Association and the Mexican American Business Chamber initiated an exciting alliance to further impact the Latino community. The two organizations will collaborate together on outreach programs such as the LAA´s business attire and back- to-school drives. They will also align their calendar of events and look forward to organizing future community events together.

LAA Receives International News Coverage by CNN en Español & CNN

As part of its “Road to Recovery” series, CNN en Español broadcasted live from the Latin American Association March 19. The station highlighted the impact of the economic crisis on the local Latino community, with a focus on what people can do to overcome the crisis and find employment. CNN reporter Josh Levs also reported live from the LAA´s Career Expo, May 2.

Celebration Honors
Incredible Efforts

The LAA honored the phenomenal contributions made by volunteers at its Volunteer Recognition Celebration held at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta April 1, 2009. Six people received individual recognition and 19 companies were honored for their volunteer efforts.

Business Clothing & Prom Project Drives Are a Success

Thanks to the generous donations of volunteers, corporations and donors, the Latin American Association´s Business Clothing and Prom Attire drives were great successes. The LAA was able to collect more than 500 articles of clothing for its professional clothing closet and more than 200 dresses for the Prom Project.

Comcast Cares for Latino Community

About 100 volunteers arrived early in the morning to the LAA´s Norcross Outreach Center April 25 ready to donate their time and efforts. As a team, they worked on landscaping, gardening and making the LAA greener. Thanks to their hard work, Comcast Cares Day, an annual event that promotes voluntarism among Comcast employees, was a complete success!

LAA and Emory Business School Volunteers Collabrated to Aid Latinos in Résumé Writing

The Latin American Association (LAA) hosted a résumé writing event in which members of Emory University´s Alpha Kappa Psi professional business fraternity and other volunteers helped Latino community members to draft and enhance their résumés. This event was the first of its kind at the LAA, with an impressive volunteer base of 65 people and a great turn-out of 138 participants. .
